Case Study: Delivering Precision and Elegance for The Venetian Renovation

Client: Confidential (through a Canadian furniture manufacturer)
Location: The Venetian Resort and Casino – Las Vegas, NV
Industry: Hospitality
Timeline: April 2023 – April 2025

Overview

Phase I - Colt Architectural Finishes was selected by a Canadian furniture manufacturer to fabricate premium marble tops for custom vanities and minibars across 4,000 guest rooms and suites at the iconic Venetian Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The scope included producing over 10,000 pieces of Verdi Alpi and Rosso Levanto marble, tailored to the client’s demanding specifications for durability, beauty, and precise fit.

When completed, this project will mark the largest renovation in the Venetian’s history, topping out at nearly $1.5 Billion USD, including full suite redesigns across approximately 4000 guest rooms and 78 expanded luxury penthouse suites bringing the total number of rooms renovated to 7,000+.

Phases II & III to begin approximately fall 2025.

The Challenges

  • Matching Legacy Materials: Designers requested the new marble elements match 25-year-old accent stone pieces still present in the floors—a rare and demanding requirement.
  • Custom Engineering Needs: The minibar design included an integrated rear vent, requiring a free-standing backsplash—unsupported by a wall, and made from fragile Rosso Levanto.
  • Rigorous Timelines: Renovations progressed at a rate of 100 rooms per week, demanding a continuous material supply chain and just-in-time delivery.
  • Logistics Complexity: Each top had to be sourced, fabricated, crated, exported from Europe or Asia, imported into the U.S., and delivered to Las Vegas—within a tight 6-week window.

Our Solution

Colt Architectural Finishes delivered end-to-end fabrication and logistics, blending material expertise with precision engineering:

Sourcing & Fabrication:

  • Verdi Alpi was sourced in block form from Italy and processed into large calibrated slabs, reinforced with fiberglass backing.
  • Rosso Levanto, naturally fragile, required rock assembly and bonding before slab creation, also supported with fiberglass.

Custom Design Innovation:

  • For each free-standing minibar backsplash, we engineered a unique solution:
A 63” x 1.5” Rosso Levanto backsplash mounted 2” from the wall with an aluminum honeycomb core for structural stability—an unconventional, yet highly effective solution.
  • To improve installation reliability, fiberglass was selectively removed on visible or hand-touchable surfaces—requiring manual smoothing without compromising structural strength.
  • For the vanities, which were installed within three-wall configurations, we added tolerance tabs for variable fit and designed backsplashes without miters to simplify field modification.

Collaborative Execution:

  • Our team worked closely with the manufacturer’s client to ensure material selection met all expectations.
  • On-site visits to the overseas fabrication plant helped align on specifications and quality control.

Results

  • Total Pieces Delivered: 10,654
  • Shipping Volume: 14 containers
  • Timeline Met: Final container shipped April 2025
  • Client Satisfaction: Exceeded expectations by maintaining high production quality and delivering ahead of renovation milestones.

Value-Added Insights

  • Proactive Planning Prevents Delays: Our advanced understanding of slab production timelines and overseas shipping logistics enabled uninterrupted material flow.
  • Early Design Involvement Saves Time and Cost: Delays due to backsplash design approvals highlighted the importance of including fabricators early in the design phase.
  • Innovative Thinking: Our honeycomb core backsplash solution not only solved a structural challenge but became a standout feature in both durability and design.
